Warming up for the 2019 season

With only a couple of weeks till the 2019 season kicks off at Castle Combe, we need to fill you in on whats happening with the team during the colder months of the year.

Bikes have been stripped and rebuilt (for the most part) and with the days starting to get longer; we are prepping hard for another busy season on some of Britain's best circuits.
During the off season we do try to keep you posted with the goings on in the shed from time to time. You can keep up to date by following our team Facebook and twitter feeds.
Whilst we are looking forward, this will be a great time to introduce the 2019 sponsors, machines and riders to you.

A moment for our sponsors

EBC Brakes
A long standing sponsor of the team: EBC® Brakes are world leaders in friction materials that make you stop and go. This is proven by eye poppingly good brake pads and clutch plates that can hold the power of the best of our motorcycles.

NGK Spark Plugs
NGK Spark Plugs sponsor more than half of the motogp field, numerous WSB and BSB teams so naturally we are over the moon that they chose to continue to sponsor our classic racing team. Having some of the best spark plugs on the market in your motorcycle not only gives you the confidence to push hard but makes servicing and maintaining easier too. We know NGK have our backs.

The Witham Group
From oil for your vintage tractor to paint for an oil tanker, Witham group supply the lot.
We make extensive use of their products including Motuls superb Factory line 800 2T road racing oil. We would genuinely use nothing else.

Stahlwille joined the team last year with an ever growing selection of tools being added to our roller cabs. Having strong and dependable tools at your disposal is a must when performing maintenance in the paddock so these are a most welcome sight in the tool box.

The RAF central fund, who you might previously remember as the RAF Sports Lottery, is at the core of our team of sponsors. The fact that our employer has a fund entirely for our moral, well being and cohesion really shows their positive attitude to sports and is something we are all very thankful for.
The central fund itself is, in part, financed by the sports lottery which all serving and previously serving personnel can play. This gives you the opportunity to support great sports such as our classic motorcycle racing and have the chance to win up to £10,000 every week. If you haven't already, you can sign up on this link which replaces the old JPA way to play.

Racing Green

Team mate and team sponsor: Andy green has a wealth of hands on knowledge and understanding when it comes to suspension. He performs custom setups to bespoke suspension modifications to suit your riding needs. A supplier and fitter of K-tech suspension, Andy has already had a huge impact of some of the best performing motorcycles in the CRMC and GP Originals.

Ragged Edge Racing
An unwanted product of racing is sometimes falling off and knowing we have a dependable bodwork supplier on hand is a great boost to the team. Examples of which can be found with pre-coloured fibreglass for Heggs' Honda VFR750 and Greens new fairing for the formula 2 TZ350.

Tony Salt

Tony Salt may have sold TST but he is still the UK's only supplier of Heidenau motorcycle road racing tyres. His continued support for the team has in no small way helped us make our achievement this season.

R-Tech Welding Equipment Ltd
Having a provider of high quality welding equipment from another superb British company on board has been really helpful. From custom builds, to emergency repairs; R-tech weldings superb customer service is only a phone call away.

Talon engineering manufacture parts and import many others. Chains, sprockets and even wheel rims have been supplied to better our chances at victory this year.

If they were hoping for real world testing then Forcefiled body armour may be our only sponsor to be a little disappointed by this years as we even surprised ourselves by managing to keep the bikes tyre side down. From simple back protectors to full upper body armour suits, the team has made use of it all and are proud to wear these quality, British made products.

2019 Riders and their Rides

This season the RAFMSA classic Motorcycle Racing Team are fieliding serving and (increasingly) retired riders.

More projects than we have space for...
After a disappointing 2018 due to injury, Green is looking forward to a season of action on his three core bikes above in a host of events spread over a number of clubs. He also hopes to have  a Kawasaki A-1R ready in time for another big European road racing event.

Chris Bartlett

A big spill at Donington has not put Bartlett off and with the bike slowly coming back together; he hopes to be entering a number of select events throughout 2019.

David Williams

Honda VFR750 RC24

Having thrashed his FZ600 round in the junior and senior production classes, Williams is finishing off the second Honda VFR750 in the classic racing teams fleet.

Gavin Heggs

Honda VFR750 RC24
Yamaha RD250

Honda CBR400RR NC29

With the VFR750 and RD250 subtly tweaked, Heggs is looking forward to a full season's racing and with the possibility of finally taking part in his much loved supersports 400 class on a CBR400RR.

Ian Ridley

Yamaha RD250
2018 was a no show for Ridley and sadly it is looking like it may continue into 2019 as things continue to keep him off his race bike. On the positive side; his bike is probably the best prepared of the whole team now.

Jon Brown

Yamaha XJ600
A newcomer for 2019: Jon Brown is putting the finishing touches to his XJ600, kindly loaned by Spen Spencer.
He intends to enter the production 600 class events. Although he will be a high-vis adorned novice; he has previous experience with clubman 600 in the 00's. On top of this Brown previously worked for D+C Classic Motorcycles, restoring pre '65 trials bikes and competed on a Villiers Cotton.

Mick Rudd

yamaha XJ600
Suzuki GT250 X7

2018 was a testing year for Rudd and his exploding X7. He looks forward to entering this season with a lot of development behind him and the back up XJ600 to keep him on the track.

Paul Kirkby

Yamaha TZ350

Kirkby will be back for 2019 for select races on his TZ350.  throughout the CRMC calendar.

Symon Woodward

Yamaha RD400
Yamaha RD250

Honda MT125

Woodward will be there doing his thing throughout the 2019 season on all three of his machines.  Symon may not be the only Woodward out on the grid however as he looks to share his MT125 with his son Joe Woodward. The MT 125 will be a welcome sight back on the grid and in pieces around the team gazebo.

Tom Flynn

Another welcome return will be Tom Flynn.
Having spent 2018 recovering from an off at Brands hatch in the end of the 2017 season, Flynn is looking to return on a well fettled and sorted RD250. The RAF aircooled 250 class is gradually coming back up to strength!
