Warming up to 2020

It's 2020 and only a short while till the season kicks off at Darley Moore. We thought we would take the time to fill you in on what to expect from us as we look forwrd to a busy year of racing.

With bikes gradually coming together, you would hope that the next few weeks would be enough time but we all know that it will be upon us in a flash so we are all busy maintaining and upgrading.
During the off season we do try to keep you posted with the goings on in the shed from time to time. You can keep up to date by following our team Facebook and twitter feeds.

You can check put upcoming races and events relevant clubs racing calendars such as the CRMC calendar.

Whilst we are looking forward, this will be a great time to introduce the 2020 sponsors, machines and riders to you.

A moment for our sponsors

A long standing sponsor of the team: EBC® Brakes are world leaders in friction materials that make you stop and go. This is proven by eye poppingly good brake pads and clutch plates that can hold the power of the best of our motorcycles.

NGK Spark Plugs sponsor more than half of the motogp field, numerous WSB and BSB teams so naturally we are over the moon that they chose to continue to sponsor our classic racing team. Having some of the best spark plugs on the market in your motorcycle not only gives you the confidence to push hard but makes servicing and maintaining easier too.

The Witham Group
From oil for your vintage tractor to paint for an oil tanker, Witham group supply the lot.
We make extensive use of their products including Motuls superb Factory line 800 2T road racing oil. We would genuinely use nothing else. They also blend their own oils to the highest standards including race spec motor oils.

R-Tech Welding Equipment Ltd

Having a provider of high quality welding equipment from another superb British company on board has been really helpful.
R-Tech welding have really stepped things up this year by supplying the team with a complete welding kit to bring racing with us. R-techs tried and tested Digital Tig-170 will now be coming along for the ride for when things get really broken.
From custom builds, to emergency repairs; R-tech weldings superb customer service is only a phone call away.

Stahlwille have been with us for a couple of years now with our roller tool cabs getting us through even the most taxing track side maintenance. Having strong and dependable tools at your disposal is a must when performing maintenance in the paddock so these are a most welcome sight in the tool box.

The RAF central fund, who you might previously remember as the RAF Sports Lottery, is at the core of our team of sponsors for those who are serving. The fact that our employer has a fund entirely for our moral, well being and cohesion really shows their positive attitude to sports and is something we are all very thankful for.
The central fund itself is, in part, financed by the sports lottery which all serving and previously serving personnel can play. This gives you the opportunity to support great sports such as our classic motorcycle racing and have the chance to win up to £10,000 every week. If you haven't already, you can sign up on this link or their Facebook page which replaces the old JPA way to play.

Racing Green

Team mate and team sponsor: Andy green has a wealth of hands on knowledge and understanding when it comes to suspension. He performs custom setups to bespoke suspension modifications to suit your riding needs. A supplier and fitter of K-tech suspension, Andy has already had a huge impact of some of the best performing motorcycles in the CRMC and GP Originals.

Ragged Edge Racing
An unwanted product of racing is sometimes falling off and knowing we have a dependable bodwork supplier on hand is a great boost to the team. Examples of which can be found with pre-coloured fibreglass for Heggs' Honda VFR750 and Greens new fairing for the formula 2 TZ350.

Tony Salt
Tony Salt may have sold TST but he is still the UK's only supplier of Heidenau motorcycle road racing tyres. His continued support for the team has in no small way helped us make our achievement this season.

Talon engineering manufacture parts and import many others. Chains, sprockets and even wheel rims have been supplied to better our chances at victory this year.

If they were hoping for real world testing then Forcefiled body armour may be our only sponsor to be a little disappointed by this years as we even surprised ourselves by managing to keep the bikes tyre side down. From simple back protectors to full upper body armour suits, the team has made use of it all and are proud to wear these quality, British made products.

2019 Riders and their Rides

This season the Classic Motorcycle Racing Team are fielding full time serving, reserve and (increasingly) retired riders.

Andy Green

Yamaha 350 Formula 2
Andy Green had a 2019 with some fantastic results on his Yamaha RD250 when he was fit to ride. He hopes to be back out at CRMC, GP originals and more events on both of the bikes shown as well as a Kawasaki A-1R which is coming along nicely in time for another big European road racing event.
Yamaha RD250

Chris Bartlett

Maxton 250

A big spill at Donington in 2018 has not put Bartlett off and with the bike slowly coming back together; he hopes to be entering a number of select events throughout 2020 on his Maxton.

David Williams

Yamaha FZ600

Dave Williams had much longer than he wanted to prep for the 2020 season after running out of talent at Anglesey in June last year. A bit fitter and much fatter than before, he can't wait to get going in both the Production and Superstock classes. His new year's resolution is not to get too giddy racing all the RAF Classic Team riders joining the Superstockers this year - not much chance of that happening!

Honda VFR750 RC24

Gavin Heggs

Yamaha RD250
Honda VFR750 RC24

With the
VFR750 and RD250 subtly tweaked, Heggs is looking forward to a full season's racing. The main goal on the 750, with added competition, is to not be the slowest RAF rider this year. Heggs also hopes to finally take part in some Superstock 400 class racing on a CBR400RR NC29 at the Belgium Classic TT races in Geddine and the Bob Mac' memorial race at East Fortune.

Ian Ridley

Yamaha RD250

Despite Ridley saving tyre wear for another year due to eye trouble, we are hopeful for his return later on in the 2020 season.

Yamaha XJ600

Jon Brown

A newcomer for 2019: Jon Brown has made his mark with the XJ600.

Hoping for a season with more continuing improvements in his results with more thrills and hopefully less spills. He will be one to watch in the Production 600 grid.

Mick Rudd

Yamaha RD250

2019 saw the end of an era when the Suzuki X7 made way for Rudd's Yamaha RD250. Seeing as that fore-mentioned era was mostly spent rebuilding the X7, we are not sad to see this change. The RD was only out for Snetterton in 2019 but it has already proven it has what is needed to be a real competitor. That and Rudd's increasing confidence in the ever improving FZ600 should make for some good racing.

Yamaha FZ600

Paul Kirkby

Kirkby is probably our most talented rider and he really knows how to ride his TZ350. New for this season however will be a Honda VFR750 RC24 which he aims to race in the Superstock 750 class. We hope to be seeing more of him in this CRMC calendar as well as at the Bob Mac' memorial race at East Fortune.
Kirkby is also eyeing up a trip to Gedinne, Belgium, in August this year.
Yamaha TZ350

Symon Woodward

Yamaha RD400
Woodward's plans for 2020 are yet to be finalised, but for the first time ever he will be competing a whole season on a 4-stroke. He intends to join the Superstock fun and the ACU race on a Honda VFR750 RC24, and the Production Class on a Honda VFR400 NC21.

Yamaha RD250
Depending on stringent time/resource restrictions he will still be competing his TZ/RD400 and RD250 with the occasional outing on the Honda MT125. In addition to this, his 17 year old son Joe will also want to be racing everything, everywhere, (will have to wait to see who wins that one). Outside of the CRMC, Symon's "wishlist" includes racing his Kawasaki ZXR400 and MT125 at the Bob Mac Classic races in Scotland and the ZXR and a loaned Suzuki T500 at the Belgium Classic TT races in Geddine.
