Race review - GP Originals - round 4 - Cadwell Park 2022

Setting up camp  - Roy Dale

On a red hot weekend, Andy Green dragged Roy Dale away from his comfy sofa for the short trip to Cadwell park. Green is no stranger to his local track but, feeling like he never gets two corners right in a row, it isn’t one of his favourites.

The combined practice and qualifying were taken at a steady pace, more of a shake down than a run for the front of the grid, so Green was satisfied with a 17th place starting position of a capacity grid.

Saturday wore on till it was time for Greens single afternoon race. A confident start soon had him in the middle of the pack into the first fast left hander up the hill.

“It is always a fun moment squeezing through little openings when presented, until the park straight dash where things tend to settle down.”

This left Green in a group of 4 or 5 of machines bunched up with Green hot on the heels of Tony Perkin on his lovely Maxton TZ with Sian just behind keeping the pressure on. After a couple of laps Green made use of Perkin’s slip stream on park straight, then sealing the deal with a strong EBC disc and pad setup making the late braking almost easy. Clear of the group, the flow set in, maintaining a couple of seconds separation till the chequered flag confirmed a well earned 11th overall. Plus a  new PB for Cadwell Park. Not bad for a day's work.

Sunday came and with it two races to complete. “Whilst the track temperature was warm, the rider temperature was hotter!” Black leathers and sunshine were going to be a test in themselves, let alone any of this racing business. Best send Roy to go visit the ice cream van!

A more sober start in the first race of the day had Green up in 16th after the first lap. Not as good as the first race but he was in familiar company, tucked in behind Tony Perkins again. 2 laps flew by before an opportunity to pass was presented, again on the brakes at the end of park straight. Head down and resisting the urge to look back, Green built a 5 second lead all the way to a 13th place finish.

The final race of the weekend set off with a good start, slingshotting Green past Perkins on lap 1 and then onwards to the back of the leading group.

This had Green holding 9th place on lap 3 but with the knowledge that faster rider Mark Linton, who had made a mistake earlier on in the race, was behind him and closing the gap. Green pushed on and was rewarded with a 9th place finish and again; a new PB nearly a second better than his previous day’s attempt!

That rapped up the weekends racing for Green and can be best summed up in his own words:

“A really great weekend with a new PB wrapped up a well run event. Again big thanks to my permanent right hand man for these events Roy Dale. A top 10 finish for myself is a big achievement with such a competitive grid.”
